Welcome - My First Post!
A little bit about me.
Hometown: Fairfield, CT
School: University of Connecticut, Studying Animal Science
My name is Allie and I am probably the biggest animal/dog enthusiast you will ever know. I have had a passion for animals since I was a little girl and I always knew I wanted to help animals for my career. During my time at UConn, I have been on the Executive Board for a student organization called Paws and Claws - currently as President, previously as Event Coordinator and Vice President. Paws and Claws fundraises for and volunteers with animal rescues and organizations in Connecticut. So I guess you could say I spend 90% of my time helping dogs and playing with dogs (no complaints about that though!)
I am in no way, shape, or form a professional when it comes to pet care and training - but I do love to learn new things and spread what I do know to others. While I can't tell you the surefire way to get your dog not to bark at the sound of a doorbell, my hope is that I can use this blog to spread what I have learned from my own experiences and research and strengthen the bond between you and your furry, 4-legged pal.
A little bit about my pup.
I live at school with my 2 year old dog, Ziggy Stardust (proudly named after the one and only). He is a chihuahua/terrier mix and I rescued him from the Pack Leaders Rescue in East Hartford, CT. He is the most energetic couch potato you will ever meet - I know that doesn't make sense, but just take my word for it. At any given time, he gets bursts of uncontrollable energy and can jump 5 feet in the air with ease. But 75% of the time, he curls up under his blanket and just hangs out with me. He struggles with anxiety and is quite skeptical of some (well, most) of the things around him, but he is truly the sweetest pooch on the planet and I am so grateful to have found him.
You will also see my boyfriend's dog, Teddy, in many of my posts. In fact, he's sitting in my lap helping me write this one! He is a 4 month old Schnoodle (Mini Schnauzer/Mini Poodle mix) and is simply adorable. Keep an eye out for a post in the near future about his first week home :)
I look forward to beginning this journey with you and would love to hear more about what you, as a pet parent, are most interesting in hearing about! No topic is off-limits so please email me or comment your suggestions. I will post new content weekly, so until then, please follow my instagram (@dogmomintraining) for cute dog pics, tips and tricks, advice, and pup-scribe to the email list so that you can be notified every time I publish a new post!
